Booty Wax Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours
By Glass House Aesthetix | August 31, 2026
Castle Shannon, PA, right off the Library Road commercial corridor
We hear it all the time after waxing: you loved how gentle we were and how we explained everything as we went. Now here’s the one rule that protects that smooth result: keep the area clean, cool, and low-friction for the first 24 to 48 hours. That means skip heavy sweat, hot water soaking, and tight clothing so your skin can calm down instead of getting irritated.
Your first 24 to 48 hours after a Booty Wax: the do’s that save you
Our Booty Wax is quick, 15 minutes, and it’s focused on the gluteal area for a smooth finish. The aftercare is simple, but it matters. Right after your appointment in downtown Castle Shannon, think of your skin like it’s a little “open” and reactive. Heat and friction are the two big triggers.
48-hour no list: hot baths, saunas, heavy exercise, swimming, hot tubs, and sun exposure.
Showering is fine, just keep it gentle
You can shower after you leave our suite. Use lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. No loofahs, no scrub gloves, and no rubbing the area. Pat dry with a clean towel. If you’re a parent running errands up and down Library Road, toss a clean, soft cloth in your bag so you’re not stuck using rough paper towels in a public restroom.
Clothing matters more than you think
Go loose and breathable for at least 48 hours. Cotton underwear tends to be the easiest on freshly waxed skin. Tight jeans, shapewear, and synthetic fabrics can rub and trap heat, which is a fast track to bumps.
The first week: how to prevent ingrown hairs after a booty wax
A lot of our waxing regulars tell us they love that we “take our time and make sure to get every hair.” Keeping that smooth finish is mostly about what you do next. For the first few days, keep things calm and hands-off. Don’t pick at tiny bumps. Don’t shave between waxes. And keep workouts lighter until your skin is clearly back to normal.
Sweat and summer humidity in the Pittsburgh area
In August, Pittsburgh-area humidity makes sweat stick around. If you do get sweaty, change out of damp clothes quickly and rinse off with lukewarm water. Sitting in sweaty leggings in the car on the way back to Mount Lebanon, Dormont, or Bethel Park can irritate freshly waxed skin fast.
Cold, dry winters need a different plan
In winter, dry air can make skin feel tight and itchy. That itch can tempt you to scratch, which is the last thing you want. Gentle moisture is your friend, and we’ll talk about what to apply in the next section.
Products that actually help after booty wax (and what to wait on)
Keep your product routine boring at first. Fragrance and heavy, pore-clogging creams are common irritants right after waxing. We generally recommend a fragrance-free, non-comedogenic soothing lotion, or a light post-wax oil applied sparingly once the skin has calmed down.
A simple at-home routine we like
- Days 0 to 2: lukewarm showers, gentle cleanser, pat dry, light soothing moisture if needed.
- Days 3 to 7: start gentle exfoliation a few times a week if your skin feels normal. If you’re prone to ingrowns, a salicylic-acid product can help after about 3 to 5 days.
- Always: clean underwear, less friction, don’t pick.
One more thing people forget: car-seat friction. If you commute in from Brentwood, Whitehall, or Pittsburgh, a longer drive can rub the area. A soft, breathable layer helps, and so does taking breaks from sitting when you can.
When something feels off: what’s normal, what’s not, and how we’ll help
A little redness or warmth right after waxing is normal and usually settles quickly. What we don’t want you to ignore is increasing pain, redness that spreads, pus, or fever. If anything has you second-guessing, reach out. Our clients often tell us they feel comfortable speaking up about the results they expect, and we want you to feel that way about aftercare too.
“She takes her time and explains exactly what she will be doing, and allows you the ability to ask any questions you need to ask.”
